Plastic glass

MaterialPressed styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) is a transparent plastic with glass-like properties that can be used indoors and outdoors. The material is formable and easy to work. It can be sown, drilled, glued, milled, engraved and grinded.Characteristics   • Stiff with high stability  •Transparent  • Withstand water  • High softening point  • UV protected  • Moldable with heat  • High chemical resistance: withstand grease, dilute acid solutions, oils and common bleach, some solvents and weak alkaline solutions.Applications: Doors, bathrooms, greenhouse, room divider, shelf, cooler, lid, protection, screen printing, signs, monters, cabinets, etc.Technical data  Softening point:> 70 ° C ISO 306  Ignition temperature: 400 ° C DIN 51794  Decomposition temperature:> 270 ° C  Density: 1.08 g / cm³ ISO 1183  Fire Information: No flammable properties  Solubility: Insoluble in water. Soluble in aromatic solvents  Approved for food contact: FDA 21 CFR 181.32  Degradation Product: Monomer  Thickness tolerance at 20 ° C  1.5-2.5 mm: ± 10%  > 2.50 mm: ± 5%   Machining and wet grindingThe material can be processed with most tools for wood and metal. Make sure the tool is sharop and work at low speed so that the material does not melt by friction heat. Cool the material while working with clean water or soapy water. Leave the protective film to prevent the material from being scratched or damaged.Hot bendingFirst heat the inside of the intended bend and then the outside with a hot air gun. Bend quickly along the heated line. Boxes that are thicker than 3 mm need to be heated several times on each side before bending. The material reaches optimum moldability at 101° C when you can feel some resistance. If the material is too cold, the bending results in brittleness and if it is too hot, bubbles can form.CleaningPlastic glass, despite its hardness, has a soft surface. Cleaning must therefore be done with mild agents such as soapy water and soft cloth. Do not use microfiber cloth as they cause scratches in the glass. Wipe the glass with a soft cloth or a damp cloth. Plastic glass has limited chemical resistance, so never leave the glass for more than 5 minutes in any kind of detergent. Oil residues and hard dirty glass should be cleaned with a mixture of disinfectants for exemple isopropyl and alcohol.Mechanical fastenersOver-measure the holes a few millimeters so that the installation can move during thermal expansion. Screws and rivets provide a permanent installation.
