Garden in June

Garden in June

June is here – and for those with a green thumb, the sun and warmth mean there are lots of projects to start in the garden.

Planting

Be careful when planting your seedlings in flowerbeds and pots outdoors, because the strong spring sun can burn them. Seedlings you have pre-grown indoors should be acclimated before planting them outside. You can do this by putting them in a semi-shady place that is protected from wind, so that they have time to get used to the sun, wind, and rain.

Garden furniture

Summer means more time to sit outside in the garden and socialise. So if you haven’t already, now is the time to take out the garden furniture.

Decorate your garden

A garden is ideal for children to play and for adults to socialise, and you can use garden furniture to create different areas and spaces. Read more about how to decorate your garden here.

Clearing weeds in flowerbeds

With warmer weather and wetter soil, the weeds come out as if on command. The sooner you start weeding, the less you will need to do later in the summer, so it’s worth devoting some time to weeding as early as June. Because once the weeds have had time to sow their seeds, they spread quickly.

Fertilise more

Shrubs, lawn, and flowers have started to grow properly in June, and it’s therefore the perfect time to give your plants some extra nutrition. Add fertiliser and plant nutrients to the soil and then water, your plants will thank you with flowers and greenery.

Trimming hedges

Midsummer is a good time to trim your hedges. An electric hedge trimmer is ideal for the heavy work, while a manual hedge trimmer is perfect for the finishing touches to get a perfect hedge. A tip is for the hedge to be widest at the bottom; this will prevent the plant from becoming sparse at the bottom and sunlight will reach the whole plant. Don’t forget to wear safety goggles when you’re working!
