Waterproof tips on waterproofing

Now we hope that you feel ready for your renovation, and that you have found clarity on which of our Swedish-made and approved waterproofing systems that suits you and your wet room best.

When you as an individual carry out a renovation or new construction of wet rooms yourself, it is important that you do it professionally.

This means that the material you use must be from an approved system that meets the requirements for water and vapour density in the Swedish National Board of Housing and Urban Development's Building Regulations (BBR) and in the Swedish Building Ceramics Council's Industry Rules for Wet Rooms, applicable to BBV 21:1.
In order for you to succeed in your waterproofing project, the installation instructions and BBV 21:1 must be followed.

Biltema's waterproofing system consists of approved systems, which meet the requirements for water and vapour density according to current building and industry regulations, which is a prerequisite for your renovation or new construction to be carried out professionally.

Attach with tile adhesive

Tile adhesive is the material used to attach tiles in your wet room. You must use tile adhesive when affixing tiles, mosaics, and stone veneer to walls and floors. Tile adhesive is usually made from cement and comes in powder form.

When renovating your wet room, it is important that you use tile adhesive specifically designed for wet rooms.

Our tile adhesive is included in our waterproofing systems for wet rooms, and can be used on concrete, self-levelling floor screed, brick, plaster and plasterboard, both indoors and outdoors. Have you opted for underfloor heating in your wet room? No problem! Biltema’s tile adhesive is perfectly suitable for both electric and waterborne underfloor heating.

When applying the tile adhesive, make sure to spread it equally over the substrate. Then drag a notched trowel across the adhesive. Use the correct trowel size according to the thickness and size of your tiles.
