How to choose the right audio cable for your audio device

A balanced audio cable sends a single signal through a twisted-pair cable. This minimises interference in comparison to single-wire audio cables. However, the latter variant is more common when it comes to cabling for home use.

When buying a new audio cable, consider the following properties:

Connector. The most important thing is the connector. It needs to fit the equipment to which the cable will be connected. In some cases, audio cables have different connectors at each end. For example, one end may have an RCA connector and the other a 3.5mm jack.
Length. The length of the audio cable is also important. You must ensure that the cable is long enough. To determine the required length, measure the distance between your audio devices. Keep in mind that you may need a little extra length depending on how the audio cables will run.
